Nigel ‘Big Nig’ Hicks has made an indelible impression on the South African Downhill scene, and it’s hard not understand why when you find out he’s been riding bikes for 30 years…so from the tender age of five he begun wheel spinning his parents garden to pieces and has basically never stopped. Nigel rides real fast, but is almost better known for his inexhaustible enthusiasm towards DH and giving back to the riding scene, particularly in Pietermaritzburg. He is religious about his dedication to the Cascades DH track and many other DH and Enduro tracks around KZN, and for every successful provincial that goes down; Nigel has had a large hand in making that happen. And a large spade. And a hoe. And a rake. And like one million kilometres of tape. And a depressing amount of leave days.

Nigel is a Geologist, and due to his love for rocks, he’s been racing over them in Downhill races for 22 years. He’ll be ripping it up in the age 35 – 39 age category at Vallnord.

Nigel see’s his Top 3 riding achievements as:

1. 2013 Masters World Champ (30 – 34)

2. Having fun on a bike for 22 years

3. Managing and building the tracks for the 2011, 2012, and 2014 World Cup DH events, and the 2013 World Championships

Nigel’s Trail Slayer of choice is the: 2014 Devinci Wilson Carbon
