Apologies that this has been a long time coming, but yeesh…it seemed like our finals race at the World Champs simply extended into a mad panic to pack the bikes up straight away, a fast-paced party evening, and then three solid days of travel from Andorra to Barcelona to Doha to Johannesburg to Howick…not a lot of time for blogging.
You know, I thought when we entered a World Championship race that it would involve conquering physical obstacles, keeping calm and riding smooth to get a good time. I have discovered, however, that there is another element to World Champs racing and that is going into battle with 300 other riders during the one-hour practice session before qualifiers. Registration took place on Sunday, which resulted in a rather frantic dash around trying to get our international racing licenses printed. Somehow Mark, Cobus and I had not put two and two together, and the angry man and bewildered young lady at the registration table managed to firmly tell us that showing a picture of it on our phones was not good enough. Note to self: if the CSA say “should you wish to have this licence printed you need to pay another R30 etc etc…” just make the effort to pay the extra R30 and the courier fee.
